Steele

July 13, 2010

The Salem County Fire Academy has received confirmation today that it has been formally approved to receive several pieces of steel structural artifacts from the World Trade Center debris, that is earmarked to be erected as part of a memorial on the Training Center grounds as well as a mobile display mounted on a small trailer. Norma Manigan Senior Manager of Public Affairs for the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey communicated the approval to Academy Director Leroy Pierce after appropriate efforts were made to secure the artifacts. The process may take several months to be completed as the Port Authority has received over 1,000 similar requests. Once the specific steel items have been identified and marked for transport, an appropriate motorcade and escort from the West New York, NJ storage area to the Salem County Fire Academy will be announced. We are honored to have been chosen to receive these very special artifacts from the hallowed soil from Ground Zero in order to memorialize not only those who lost their lives on that fateful day but also in remembrance of all who gave their lives in all disciplines of the emergency services throughout history and in the future.
